The illustrations shown here are part of the cooperation project Manuscript Hunters and were created in collaboration with the Institute for the Near and Middle East of the Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Ronny Vollandt and his team.
The illustrations were created for selected texts by the students of the 3rd semester
of the Illustration course of study and illuminate in different ways and
Wise scenes and personalities from the series of the so-called Manuscript Hunters
(Engl. Manuscript Hunters), who, in a sometimes adventurous way, had brought back from their travels in the Orient a considerable proportion of the most valuable old manuscripts that can be found in European libraries today.
Each story gave the students the opportunity to set and elaborate different illustrative focuses. The basis for this – in addition to the texts provided – was their own research and the expansion of their individual possibilities of expression through technical experiments.
The illustrations will be presented on a newly created platform of the Institute for the
Near and Middle East, which deals with the topic of the Masnuscript Hunters,
accompany the scientific texts collected there in an emotional and visually appealing way, thus supporting the attention and interest in this important and exciting topic.
